MY BACKYARD

This picture and the next two on this page are from early the morning of 8/7 — a month after the pics on the previous page.  The small raccoons have gotten larger and much bolder.  Now, they all stare at (but do not run from) the camera.  Matter of fact, they've gotten quite bold about sticking around, even when they're aware I'm nearby.

Same night, same children.  The red thing in the food dish is an apple that held no interest whatsoever to them.

This picture represents a "first" in my raccoon photography.  All previous photos were taken through a sliding glass door with a screen door over it.  This time, though, they seemed so unbothered by my presence that I decided to see how close I could get to this one, which I believe is the parent.  I opened the door and stepped out onto the porch and it didn't bother this raccoon one bit.  I was less than two feet away with nothing between us.  I've met women who wouldn't stand still for that.

They weren't interested in the apple and, a few nights later, they passed up some carrot sticks that I tossed into the dish.  I hope these guys are taking their vitamins because they sure aren't getting a balanced diet.
